Careers Day, 27 january 2012

Last week, all Year 9 students participated in a Careers Carousel where they each had an opportunity to meet five representatives of different careers and to spend five minutes discussing career options with each of them. There were 32 volunteers from areas including the police, banking, electrical, pharmaceutical, photography, graphic design, landscape gardening and the construction industry to name but a few. With the help of Kudos, an online careers guidance and information program, the students had been able to select representatives of the careers they were most interested in to speak to on the day. At the end of each round of the carousel, the students then attended a talk given by a member of the Connexions team.

This was a highly successful first staging of an event which is destined to become an annual fixture on the Chauncy Calendar.

french exchange host families needed

HELP! Host families needed for the French Exchange visit to Ware.

Would you be willing to have a French boy or girl to stay for a week ( 21 - 28 March)? I am looking for homes for one girl and three boys.

The idea is for the French students to experience English family life with you in the evenings, having been out on trips with their teachers during the day. There will be one joint day out which your son / daughter is welcome to join.(see attached letter)

Update 30 January:
Please email me as soon as possible if you are able to help. I still need one more host family.

Many thanks,

Mrs B Martin, MFL Department

Show My Homework

Show My Homework is an online homework calendar that allows students and parents to access the homework that has been set from any computer. Homework can also be handed in online. It’s simple…no password is necessary, either click on the link on the school website or go to www.showmyhomework.co.uk/thechauncy.

Encourage your child into good habits and log on each evening after school together and you too can see what homework has been set. For students that do not have access to a computer at home they will be able to use any of the school computers to print off the homework that has been set. Click here for a guide that explains how students can hand homework in online.

Ofsted 2008

“The school provides an extremely supportive and caring ethos in which all students receive the help and guidance they need to do well.” Ofsted came suddenly, worked swiftly and reported promptly that Chauncy is a good school with outstanding features. They were very complimentary about leadership and management and the pastoral care we provide. They described behaviour as very good and the students’ contribution to the community as outstanding. The best aspect, in my view, was that they praised the way our students look after each other, whether as mentors or just as young people in their everyday lives. Thirteen “outstanding” and twenty six “good” grades to build on for next time—possibly in 2013.
