Students attend a series of assemblies
outlining options post-16 in November / December of Year 11.
-
In November a Chauncy Sixth Form Choices
Evening is held, inviting parents and students to speak to subject
leaders and current Sixth Form students. The Headteacher and Head of
Sixth Form give talks about option choices and the Chauncy Sixth
Form application procedure respectively.
-
A Sixth Form prospectus is published which is
given to all students attending the options evening and then to all
other Year 11 students who may be interested in joining the Sixth
Form.
-
In January, Sixth Form options blocks are
trialled. An application form is then distributed to students
outlining the course option blocks available at Chauncy and within
the Hertford and Ware Federation. The deadline for applications will
be a date (to be advised) in January.
-
The Head of Sixth Form/Assistant Head Teacher
14-19 process these applications and consult Heads of Department
about individual cases. Any changes to the application should be
brought to the attention of the Head of Sixth Form or Assistant Head
Teacher 14-19 without delay.
-
Students who have applied to join the Sixth
Form are invited to interview in the summer term. Year 11 progress,
motivation to join the Sixth Form, post-16 subject suitability,
higher education and career aspirations are discussed in this
interview.
-
Students are invited to an Induction Programme
in the summer term, where they join the Sixth Form for three days,
taking part in lessons and activities.
-
On GCSE results day, students who have failed
to meet the entry requirement are asked to attend a meeting with the
Head of Sixth Form with their parents. Here their GCSEs/OCRN/BTEC
are analysed against their choices and a decision is made as to
whether they will be permitted to join the Sixth Form.
