Foundation School Status

The Chauncy School became a Foundation School on July 1st 2008. Further information on Foundation status can be found on our Foundation School page here.

OfSTED 2008

“The school provides an extremely supportive and caring ethos in which all students receive the help and guidance they need to do well.” Ofsted came suddenly, worked swiftly and reported promptly that Chauncy is a good school with outstanding features. They were very complimentary about leadership and management and the pastoral care we provide. They described behaviour as very good and the students’ contribution to the community as outstanding. The best aspect, in my view, was that they praised the way our students look after each other, whether as mentors or just as young people in their everyday lives. Thirteen “outstanding” and twenty six “good” grades to build on for next time—possibly in 2013. You can download our recent Ofsted Report here.

Record Breakers!

We had an outstanding 2007-08. Another set of record GCSE results has earned us a second specialism as a High Performing School. The real importance of the school’s success lies in the individual stories of our students and their personal achievements. The “value added” measure – Ofsted’s favourite – shows that, once again, our highest ability students exceeded national expectations as did our middle ability students. I am so proud of their achievements that I am reproducing our performance table below, (click to enlarge).

Progress table

The diagonal black line is the national level of achievement. Our students are individually represented by green squares. In terms my mother would have respected: above the line excellent; below the line, poor.
